Sportys Study Buddy will prepare you for the FAA written test like no other study tool available with three modes of operation. Test material is expertly organized into categories based on subject matter and includes, questions, answers, correct answers, and detailed explanations.

• STUDY QUESTIONS BY TOPIC •

Learning Mode allows you to create custom review sessions by selecting exactly which categories you want to review. Each session randomly generates the question order, and provides instant feedback based on your answer selection. Each question also provides a detailed description as to why each answer is right or wrong. These explanations were developed by Sporty’s team of Master CFI’s, based on their experience preparing students for the Private Pilot certificate

• REVIEW QUESTION FLASHCARDS •

Flashcard mode tests your knowledge by allowing you to only see the question without the answer choices. After answering the question mentally, you can then select to show the correct answer, and self-grade your progress along the way. This is a great feature that keeps you from being distracted by incorrect answers!

• TAKE PRACTICE TESTS •

Test mode randomly generates a 60-question session from the entire database of published FAA test questions, simulating the real Private Pilot test. After answering all the questions, you’ll be given instant results, and have the option to review either all the questions, or just missed questions. Included in the review session are the same detailed explanations for why each answer is right or wrong.

•PROGRESS REPORTS•

After completing each test your results are saved in the apps Progress Report section, where you can review previous scores and and a detailed history of each question and answer selection. You can also pause a partially-completed session, and resume it at a later time here.

Pros and cons of Private Pilot Test Prep app for iPhone and iPad

Private Pilot Test Prep app good for

I used study buddy to train for my PPL exam and just passed 88%. The app is extremely helpful and fun to use. For a five-star rating, please add the possibility to save "marked" questions across several sessions to review them later.
Just took my private pilot exam today and scored a 93%. Im amazed at how much this app helped me prepare and highly recommend it. For $10 compared the the thousands spent on training its a no-brainer. Ill share my studying strategy with it for anyone interested in case it helps give you ideas. Its essentially just studying the test over and over again but it definitely helped me iron out some weak areas and help me grasp certain concepts better. So, the total time between downloading the app and taking the test was about three weeks for me. The first two weeks I took the test a few times a day with a day or two off here and there to let things breath. During this time I didnt review my wrong answers as intensely as in week three but I did skip around through some of the flash card study drills. I had two scores in the high 60s early on and several high 70s. By the end of week two I was in the 80s. During the third week I only took the test portion once per day. But I started aggressively reviewing my wrong answers at this point and reworking the longer problems and taking screen shots on my phone of questions I got wrong and the correct answers to review. I consistently scored in the 90s this third week and as high as 95%. The morning of my exam I didnt take a practice test but focused on the flash card learning drills with an emphasis on questions I hadnt seen before. I hope this helps. Note that even with all this review I did see two questions I had never come across before on the actual exam. But, if you can get all the other questions correct it still puts you in the 90s. Good luck aviators!!
Used this app and got a 82 really helps prepare you for the test

Some bad moments

This app had some issues, sometimes if I got an answer wrong, it would indicate I selected a different answer than I actually did. The test randomization wasnt particularly random. But all that said I did pass my actual exam, and it was certainly helpful for studying on the go.
I tought this app would let you pick sections or topics and test you on them. This app just gives you either a full blown test or a flashcard mode with no option of giving you multiple choice on that. I would not recommend this product to anybody studying for their private pilots license.
I used this app almost exclusively for my test preparation and scored a 98% on the test. The one question I did miss however was not included in this version and also not in the Gleim book, so I suppose it could be a newer question. I guess the moral of the story is that if you are a perfectionist like myself this app might have a few gaps but as an overall successfully study tool its wonderful.
This app was absolutely amazing. I used it exclusively to study for my private written. And scored a 92%. I highly recommend it. I will definitely be using the Sportys instrument test prep for the iPad as well.
Im a horrible studier and it took a lot for me to just sit down and study a book. So, I downloaded this app and it changed everything. I could review questions on the train, in line at a restaurant, or anywhere I wanted. Very clean and easy to use as well. And it also gives explanations to the questions, my favourite part. Worth every penny. I now have the Instrument Study Buddy to assist me on my next rating.
Perfect for those on the go! Made an 88 and got my license yesterday!
